There is a certain quality of light in the high desert outside Los Angeles, a way the late afternoon sun paints the chaparral hillsides in hues of gold and amber. It is the same light that defined the silhouette of the lone cowboy on the big screen, a light that turned the rugged terrain of Southern California into the boundless American West. For this project, we aren't just filming a Western; we are returning to the very cradle of the genre. We are shooting in Southern California, on the land where Hollywood taught the world how to dream of the frontier.

The tradition of the "movie ranch" began here in the 1920s, born of necessity . The sprawling San Fernando Valley, the rocky outcroppings of Chatsworth, and the grassy plains of the Simi Hills became the first backlots for silent film pioneers. Studios realized that the open space, the live oaks, and the dramatic sandstone formations were more authentic—and far more expansive—than anything that could be painted on a soundstage
